OVERVIEW
When you''re pushing a dual-carbureted air-cooled engine to its absolute limits on the dunes or at the drag strip, consistent fuel pressure is the lifeblood of your performance. The AutoMeter 2-5/8 inch Silver Liquid Filled Fuel Pressure Gauge (ATM4611) provides the professional-grade precision and rugged durability needed to ensure your Type 1, Type 2, or Type 4 engine never leans out due to a failing pump or a clogged regulator. Unlike standard "dry" gauges that suffer from erratic needle bounce in high-vibration air-cooled environments, this liquid-filled unit utilizes a specialized internal fluid to dampen movement. This ensures a steady, rock-solid reading even when you''re hammering through a washboard section in the desert or launching off the line. It is a critical diagnostic tool that allows you to monitor your fuel delivery system in real-time, helping you prevent catastrophic engine failure caused by lean conditions before they start.
Aesthetics and functionality go hand-in-hand with the AutoMeter Ultra-Lite inspired design of the ATM4611. Featuring a stunning brushed aluminum silver dial face and a matching silver anodized bezel, this gauge provides a modern, high-tech look that perfectly complements any custom VW dashboard or external mounting pod. The large 2-5/8 inch diameter offers significantly better visibility compared to smaller 2-inch alternatives, making it much easier to read at a quick glance while navigating rough terrain or shifting at high RPMs. Built to withstand the harshest elements, the liquid filling not only stabilizes the needle but also lubricates the internal brass gear movements and prevents internal corrosion, ensuring a long service life in your dune buggy, sand rail, or street-legal performance Beetle. For the serious air-cooled enthusiast who demands professional-grade accuracy and a race-ready finish, this gauge is the gold standard for mechanical fuel pressure monitoring.

PRO TIPS
1. Safety First: External Mounting is Mandatory
Because the ATM4611 is a mechanical fuel pressure gauge, a physical fuel line must run directly to the back of the instrument. For safety reasons, you should NEVER mount a mechanical fuel gauge inside the passenger compartment of your VW. If a line or fitting were to fail, it would spray high-pressure fuel directly into the cabin. Always mount this gauge externally on the cowl, on a roll cage bar outside the windshield, or in an engine-compartment-mounted pod. If you absolutely must have the reading on your dash inside the car, you should opt for an electric gauge with a remote sending unit instead.
2. Use High-Quality Braided Lines
To ensure maximum reliability and accuracy, always use a #4 AN braided stainless steel line for the connection between your fuel pressure regulator and the gauge. Avoid using rubber hoses with hose clamps for this connection, as the high-vibration nature of an air-cooled engine can cause rubber lines to chafe or slip over time. The 1/8 inch NPT connection on the back of the gauge should be sealed with a small amount of Teflon tape or thread sealant, but be extremely careful not to let any sealant enter the gauge itself, as it can clog the internal mechanism and lead to false readings.
3. Account for Temperature Fluctuations
Liquid-filled gauges are sensitive to temperature changes, which can cause the internal pressure of the glycerin to build up, slightly shifting the "zero" point of the needle. If you notice the needle is not resting exactly on zero when the engine is off and cold, or if the readings seem slightly off after a long day in the hot sun, you can briefly vent the gauge. Most AutoMeter liquid-filled gauges feature a small rubber plug or "nipple" on the top of the case. Carefully lifting the edge of this plug for a second allows the internal case pressure to equalize with the atmospheric pressure, restoring perfect accuracy to your 0-15 PSI scale.
