If you are running an aftermarket deep sump, you can drill and tap the sump, but ensure you use the AutoMeter #2260 weld-in boss for a leak-free seal. Avoid placing the sender in a location that receives excessive airflow, as this can "surface cool" the sender and give you a false low reading of your actual internal oil temperature.

2. Ensure a Solid Ground Connection

Since this is an electric short-sweep gauge, its accuracy is entirely dependent on a clean ground signal. Many VW owners experience "jumpy" needles because the engine isn''t properly grounded to the chassis or the gauge itself is grounded to a painted dash surface. Always run a dedicated ground wire from the gauge to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the chassis. Additionally, ensure your transmission-to-chassis ground strap is in good condition, as this is the primary return path for the entire engine''s electrical system.

3. Protecting Your Wiring in High-Heat Areas
