Product Overview

The EMPI 00-3419-0 is a GT style exhaust system designed to provide a classic European aesthetic for your aircooled Volkswagen. This system features a quiet muffler design and dual stainless steel tips with built-in resonators, delivering a unique "GT" sound without excessive noise. Engineered to exit through the factory bumper cutouts, this kit includes the necessary hardware and aluminum flex hose for a complete installation.

Fitment Verification

This exhaust system is designed for 1300cc to 1600cc Type 1 engines. It is specifically compatible with the following models:

Volkswagen Beetle (Type 1): 1966 through 1973

Volkswagen Karmann Ghia: 1966 through 1973

Please note that this system is intended for vehicles using the original stock tailpipe exit locations in the rear apron.

Pro Tech Tips

1. Strip the Storage Paint: The black coating found on the muffler and pipes is a temporary paint intended only to prevent rust during shipping and storage. It is not a high-heat finish and will burn off quickly. For the best results, we recommend stripping this coating and applying a high-quality, high-temperature header paint before you install the system on your VW.

2. Heat Cycle the Hardware: After your initial installation and first long drive, allow the engine to cool completely and then re-torque your exhaust nuts and clamps. The thermal expansion from the first heat cycle can cause hardware to settle, and a quick re-tightening will prevent exhaust leaks and lost tips down the road.

3. Maintain the Stainless Finish: While the tips are stainless steel, they can still suffer from "bluing" or surface contamination due to road salt and exhaust soot. Periodically clean the tips with a dedicated stainless steel polish to maintain the mirror finish and prevent pitting or permanent discoloration from heat and environmental debris.
