OVERVIEW
When you''re pushing your air-cooled beast through the dunes or tearing up the drag strip, the last thing you want is a shaky needle making it impossible to read your fuel pressure. The AutoMeter 2-5/8 inch Pro-Comp Liquid-Filled Fuel Pressure Gauge (ATM5412) is the ultimate solution for serious VW enthusiasts who demand precision under pressure. Unlike standard mechanical gauges that can flutter and wear out prematurely due to the intense engine harmonics and chassis vibration common in Type 1 and Type 3 platforms, this liquid-filled powerhouse uses a specialized silicone dampening fluid. This fluid surrounds the internal movement, effectively soaking up vibrations and providing a rock-steady pointer reading even in the most violent racing environments. Whether you are dialing in a set of dual 44 IDFs or monitoring a high-volume electric fuel pump, this gauge offers the reliability and accuracy needed to keep your air-cooled engine running at peak efficiency without the risk of leaning out or flooding.
Beyond its technical prowess, the Pro-Comp series brings a professional, track-ready aesthetic to your dashboard or engine compartment. The 2-5/8 inch diameter is the "big brother" to standard 2-1/16 inch gauges, offering superior visibility at a glancea critical factor when you are at wide-open throttle and need to verify your fuel delivery system is keeping up. The silver face with bold black increments and a high-contrast orange pointer ensures that you can monitor your 0-15 PSI range with absolute confidence. This gauge is specifically engineered for carbureted applications, making it the perfect match for the low-pressure requirements of classic Volkswagen fuel systems. Built with a rugged stainless steel bezel and a heavy-duty housing, the ATM5412 is designed to withstand the harsh elements of off-road desert racing and the high-heat cycles of a performance-built VW engine bay. When it comes to protecting your engine investment, don''t settle for a bouncy needle; upgrade to the gold standard of professional monitoring.

PRO TIPS
1. Proper Pressure for Performance Carburetion
Most air-cooled VW enthusiasts running dual Weber or Dellorto carburetors mistakenly believe that higher pressure equals more power. In reality, these carburetors are extremely sensitive to fuel pressure. We recommend using this AutoMeter gauge to dial in your fuel pressure between 3.0 and 3.5 PSI. Anything over 4.0 PSI can easily blow past the needle and seat, leading to flooding, poor idle, and potential engine fires. This 0-15 PSI gauge provides the perfect resolution to see those tiny half-pound increments that a 0-100 PSI gauge simply cannot show accurately.
2. Safety First: External vs. Internal Mounting
Because the ATM5412 is a mechanical gauge, fuel actually enters the back of the gauge to provide the reading. We strongly recommend mounting this gauge outside the cabineither on an engine-mounted fuel block or in a cowl-mounted pod. If you must mount it inside the dashboard, you MUST use a fuel pressure isolator. Running a pressurized fuel line directly into the passenger compartment is a major safety hazard in a classic VW. Use the 1/8 inch NPT fitting with high-quality PTFE-lined braided hoses for a leak-free installation that can handle the vibrations of a high-performance flat-four.
3. Managing Temperature Fluctuations
Since this gauge is liquid-filled, the internal pressure of the silicone fluid can sometimes change with extreme temperature shifts, causing the needle to not sit exactly at zero when the engine is off. This is a normal physical property of liquid-filled gauges. To ensure the most accurate reading during a race or a hot day in the desert, you can briefly vent the gauge by carefully pushing the small rubber plug at the top of the housing to equalize the internal pressure with the atmosphere. This ensures that your 3.5 PSI reading is dead-on regardless of whether you are in the freezing mountains or the scorching Mojave.
