OVERVIEW
Transform the profile of your classic Volkswagen with the iconic Cal-Look aesthetic using the EMPI Glue-In Style 1-Piece Window Kit. For decades, removing the vent wing windows has been a hallmark of custom VW styling, providing a much cleaner, streamlined appearance that emphasizes the sleek curves of the 1958 to 1964 Beetle. This kit is designed to replace your factory split-window glass with a single, continuous pane of high-quality tempered glass, eliminating the cluttered look of the original vertical divider and the often-leaky vent window assemblies. By installing this kit, you are not just upgrading your glass; you are embracing a piece of air-cooled history that defines the smooth, custom look sought after by enthusiasts around the world. Whether you are building a show-winning weekend cruiser or a daily driver that needs a modern touch, this kit provides the optical clarity and structural integrity your Beetle deserves.
Engineering a 1-piece window conversion requires precision and high-grade materials to ensure the glass operates smoothly within the door cavity. This EMPI kit includes clear, fully tempered safety glass that meets rigorous standards for automotive use, ensuring both durability and peace of mind. Beyond the glass itself, the kit is packed with the essential hardware needed to finish the job right, including felt-lined window channels to prevent rattling and high-quality inner and outer scrapers to keep moisture out of your door internals. It is important to note that this is the glue-in style kit, which provides a secure bond to the window sash. To complete this installation successfully, you must use the specific 1-piece window regulators (SKU 00-9757-0 and 00-9758-0) and the appropriate window sashes (SKU 00-9759-0), as the stock 1958-1964 hardware does not have the necessary travel or geometry to support a full-width pane of glass. When combined with the correct supporting components, this kit delivers a factory-fit feel with a distinct custom edge.

PRO TIPS
1. Master the Regulator Geometry
The most common mistake during a 1-piece window conversion is attempting to reuse the original 1958-1964 window regulators. The stock regulators are designed for a much narrower piece of glass and do not provide the vertical travel or the horizontal stability required for a single, large pane. You MUST upgrade to the 1-piece specific regulators. Before glueing your glass into the sashes, mock up the regulator and sash inside the door to ensure the glass tracks straight. If the regulator isn''t perfectly centered, the glass will bind in the felt channels as it nears the top of the door frame. Take the time to shim or adjust the regulator mounting points to achieve a butter-smooth operation.
2. Prep the Sash for a Permanent Bond
Since this is a glue-in style kit, the bond between the glass and the metal sash is the only thing holding your window in place. Before applying any adhesive, use a wax and grease remover or denatured alcohol to clean the bottom edge of the glass and the inside of the new sashes (SKU 00-9759-0). Any residual oils from your fingers or manufacturing coatings will cause the glue to fail over time, leading to a window that slips or rattles. Use a high-quality automotive glass urethane or a specialized window channel adhesive. We recommend letting the glue cure for a full 24 hours before you attempt to roll the windows up or down for the first time.
3. Perfect the Scraper and Channel Alignment
The scrapers and felt channels included in this kit are vital for both noise reduction and protecting your door from rust. When installing the felt channels, ensure they are seated deeply into the door frame grooves. If they are slightly "puckered" or loose, the glass will catch the felt and pull it down into the door. For the scrapers, make sure the clips are fully engaged with the door skin. A trick used by pro builders is to apply a very light dusting of talcum powder or a dry silicone spray to the felt channels during the first few weeks of use. This reduces the initial friction while the new rubber and felt "break in," preventing unnecessary strain on your new window regulator handles.
