OVERVIEW
When it comes to maintaining the structural integrity of your air-cooled engine, the smallest components often play the most critical roles. This premium 8mm exhaust stud is a faithful reproduction of the original OEM hardware, designed specifically to withstand the extreme thermal cycling and corrosive environments found at the cylinder head exhaust ports. Over decades of operation, factory studs become brittle, heat-soaked, and prone to snapping during routine exhaust maintenance or header upgrades. By replacing your aged, rusted hardware with these high-strength studs, you ensure a secure, leak-free seal between your exhaust manifold and the cylinder head, which is vital for maintaining proper backpressure and preventing dangerous exhaust leaks that can lead to burnt valves or poor engine performance.
Whether you are performing a complete engine overhaul or simply swapping out a rusted heater box, using fresh hardware is the only way to guarantee a professional result. These studs feature the correct M8 thread pitch to thread perfectly into your Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 cylinder heads without the risk of galling or stripping that often accompanies cheap, generic hardware. Sold individually, these allow you to replace a single damaged fastener or purchase a full set of eight for a comprehensive engine refresh. Don''t risk the headache of a snapped bolt deep inside your cylinder head casting; invest in the right hardware from the start and keep your classic Volkswagen running at its absolute peak for years to come.

PRO TIPS
Tip 1: The Double-Nut Installation Method
To install these studs into the cylinder head without marring the threads with pliers, use the double-nut method. Simply thread two 8mm nuts onto the stud and tighten them against each other until they are locked. Use a wrench on the outer nut to drive the stud into the head. Once the stud is fully seated and snug, use two wrenches to unlock the nuts and remove them. This ensures the stud is installed straight and the threads remain pristine for the final exhaust assembly. Always ensure the head''s threaded holes are clean and free of carbon buildup before starting.
Tip 2: Never Skip High-Temp Anti-Seize
Because the exhaust area is the hottest part of the engine, metal-to-metal bonding (galling) is extremely common. Before threading these new studs into your aluminum cylinder heads, apply a small amount of high-temperature copper or nickel-based anti-seize to the threads. This simple step prevents the steel stud from "welding" itself to the aluminum head over time. It makes future maintenance significantly easier and prevents the catastrophic scenario of a stud snapping off inside the head the next time you need to remove your exhaust system.
Tip 3: Check Your Torque After Heat Cycles
New exhaust gaskets and studs can "settle" after the first few engine runs. After installing your new studs and exhaust system, run the engine until it reaches full operating temperature, then let it cool down completely. Re-check the torque on the exhaust nuts. You will often find that the nuts have loosened slightly as the gaskets crushed and the metal expanded and contracted. Retightening them after one or two heat cycles is the best way to prevent the dreaded "exhaust tick" and ensure your gaskets don''t blow out prematurely due to a loose connection.
