OVERVIEW
When it comes to maintaining the structural integrity and smooth operation of your air-cooled Volkswagen''s front suspension, the King Pin Beam Seal Kit is an absolute necessity for any serious builder or restorer. Designed specifically for the classic King and Link Pin front ends, these urethane seals serve as the primary line of defense between your front trailing arms and the axle beam tubes. In the harsh environments where these vehicles often livewhether it''s a dusty desert trail in a Baja Bug or a rain-slicked city street in a restored Beetlethe stock rubber seals frequently fail, cracking and allowing abrasive contaminants to enter the beam. This EMPI-manufactured kit replaces those inferior factory components with high-density urethane, providing a superior barrier that keeps grease in and destructive grit out, ensuring your bushings and needle bearings remain protected for the long haul.
What sets this 4-pack urethane seal kit apart is its incredible resilience and precision fit. Unlike standard rubber that degrades when exposed to UV rays, oil, and road chemicals, these red urethane seals are engineered to withstand the test of time and extreme suspension cycling. The King and Link Pin design relies heavily on proper lubrication and tight tolerances; once dirt penetrates the beam, it acts like sandpaper, rapidly wearing down the trailing arm surfaces and the internal bushings. By upgrading to this urethane kit, you are investing in a component that offers a tighter seal against the beam face and trailing arm shoulder. Whether you are assembling a brand-new adjustable narrowed beam or simply performing routine maintenance on a vintage weekend cruiser, these seals provide the peace of mind that your front end is sealed tight against the elements.

PRO TIPS
Tip 1: Surface Preparation is Critical
Before installing your new urethane seals, it is vital to thoroughly clean the mating surfaces on both the axle beam tube ends and the trailing arm shoulders. Use a Scotch-Brite pad or fine-grit sandpaper to remove any old rubber residue, rust, or burrs from the metal surfaces. Any irregularities on the beam face can prevent the urethane from seating flush, which compromises the seal. Once clean, apply a very light film of waterproof grease to the seal itself; this helps it slide into position during assembly and prevents "chatter" or binding during the initial movement of the suspension arms.
Tip 2: Avoid Over-Compression During Assembly
When you are sliding your trailing arms back into the beam, ensure the seals remain centered. If you are using a narrowed or custom beam, tolerances can be tighter than stock. Ensure that the seal is not being pinched or "rolled" as the arm is seated against the beam. A properly installed seal should sit firmly between the arm and the beam without being crushed to the point of distortion. If the seal looks lopsided once the link pins are installed, back the arm out slightly and reposition the seal to ensure 360-degree coverage around the trailing arm shaft.
Tip 3: Sync Your Maintenance Intervals
Even though urethane is significantly more durable than rubber, it is not indestructible. We recommend inspecting these seals every time you grease your front beam (which should be done every 3,000 miles or after every heavy off-road excursion). Check for any signs of tearing or extreme flattening. Because these seals are so affordable and easy to replace when the arms are off, we always suggest installing a fresh set whenever you have the front end apart for a king pin rebuild or a link pin adjustment. Keeping these seals fresh is the cheapest way to prevent an expensive beam or trailing arm replacement down the road.
