Product Fitment and Compatibility

The EMPI Alternator and Generator Stand is designed for Volkswagen Type 1 engines, including those found in the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and various Dune Buggy configurations. This lightweight aluminum stand is a requirement when converting from a 6-volt system to a 12-volt system or when upgrading to an alternator. It is compatible with stock oil fillers and breather assemblies, replacing OEM part number 113-101-211G.

Verify the Oil Deflector Plate: Before installing the stand, ensure the internal oil baffle or deflector plate is correctly positioned in the engine case. This plate is vital for preventing engine oil from splashing directly into the oil filler and breather, which helps maintain a clean engine bay and prevents oil loss through the ventilation system.

Ensure a Proper Seal: Clean the mounting surface of the engine case thoroughly to remove all old gasket material. Use a fresh gasket and a small amount of non-hardening sealant to prevent oil seeping from the base. Because the stand is cast aluminum, over-tightening the mounting nuts can cause cracks, so tighten them evenly to the recommended torque specifications.

Align the Mounting Strap: When placing the alternator or generator onto the stand, make sure the unit sits flush in the saddle. If the strap is not centered or the unit is tilted, it can cause the fan belt to be misaligned, leading to rapid belt wear or excessive noise. Always check pulley alignment after the strap is secured to ensure the belt runs straight.
