The EMPI Stainless Steel Baja Stinger is the ultimate exhaust upgrade for VW enthusiasts looking for durability and a classic off-road sound. Unlike standard painted steel stingers that can rust or chip over time, this version is constructed from high-quality stainless steel to withstand the elements. It features a standard 3-bolt flange, making it a direct bolt-on for most performance VW headers. This "Long" style stinger provides the iconic look and unrestricted flow required for high-performance aircooled engines.

This product is designed for aircooled Volkswagen engines utilized in off-road and custom applications. Fitment includes:

Note: This stinger requires a 3-bolt flange header (sold separately) and is intended for off-road use. It may not clear stock rear bumpers on standard Beetles.

1. Surface Preparation: Before starting your engine for the first time after installation, wipe down the entire stainless steel surface with a degreaser or denatured alcohol. Oils from your fingerprints can "burn" into the metal during the first heat cycle, causing permanent stains. Cleaning it first ensures a professional, even gold or blue tint as the metal seasons.

2. Gasket and Hardware: Always use a new 3-bolt flange gasket when installing a new stinger. For the best results, use copper-based high-temp RTV or a metal-core gasket to prevent exhaust leaks. We also recommend using stainless steel hardware or anti-seize lubricant on the bolts to ensure they can be easily removed in the future.

3. Vibration Management: Because the Baja Stinger is a long, cantilevered component, it is subject to significant vibration during off-road use. Periodically check the torque on your flange bolts. If you experience frequent loosening, consider using safety wire or high-temperature lock washers to keep the stinger securely attached during rough trail rides.
