OVERVIEW
When you''re building a high-performance off-road machine or a custom air-cooled VW, your suspension is only as strong as its weakest mounting point. The Allstar Performance Coil Over Bracket Flat Mount A is engineered to provide a rock-solid, weld-on solution for mounting standard or coil-over shocks directly to your chassis. Whether you''re reinforcing a Baja Bug''s rear shock towers or fabricating a completely custom sand rail from the ground up, these brackets offer the structural integrity needed to handle the brutal vertical loads and lateral stresses of off-road terrain. Crafted from heavy-duty 1/8-inch thick mild steel, these brackets are designed for maximum weld penetration and long-term durability, ensuring your suspension remains securely anchored no matter how hard you push your vehicle through the whoops or over the dunes.
This kit isn''t just about the steel; it''s a comprehensive mounting solution that includes a high-grade 1/2-inch bolt, a precision-machined spacer, and a secure locknut to prevent hardware backing out under vibration. The Flat Mount "A" configuration is specifically designed for surfaces where a flat interface is required, making it an ideal choice for frame rails, rectangular crossmembers, or custom-fabricated shock hoops. Because it accommodates both 1/2-inch I.D. inner bushings and 1/2-inch rod ends (Heim joints), it offers the versatility required for various suspension geometries. By choosing this Allstar Performance bracket from Appletree Automotive, you''re investing in a professional-grade component that simplifies the fabrication process while significantly elevating the safety and performance of your air-cooled VW project.

PRO TIPS
1. Proper Weld Preparation is Critical
Before you strike an arc, ensure that the mounting surface on your chassis is ground down to clean, shiny metal. Because these brackets are mild steel, any paint, rust, or oil will contaminate the weld and lead to structural failure. We recommend beveling the edges of the bracket slightly to allow for deeper weld penetration. If you are welding to a thinner gauge frame, consider adding a "doubler plate" behind the bracket to distribute the load over a larger surface area, preventing the frame from cracking under the extreme leverage of a coil-over shock.
2. Use a Mock-Up Shock for Alignment
Suspension geometry is sensitive, and even a few degrees of misalignment can cause your shocks to bind or wear out rod ends prematurely. When positioning the Allstar Flat Mount Bracket, use a "mock-up" shock or a piece of square tubing cut to your shock''s ride height to ensure the bracket is perfectly square to the lower mount. Tack-weld the bracket in place first, then cycle the suspension through its full range of motion (bump and droop) to verify that the shock body or spring does not contact the chassis or the bracket itself at any point.
3. Manage Heat During the Welding Process
While the 1/8-inch steel is robust, excessive heat buildup during welding can cause the bracket to warp, making it difficult to slide the shock bushing or rod end into place later. We recommend keeping the 1/2-inch bolt and spacer installed (but not the shock) while tack-welding to maintain the correct spacing between the bracket ears. Once tacked, remove the hardware and weld in short segments, alternating sides to keep the heat localized. After the bracket has cooled completely, apply a high-quality chassis paint or powder coat to the raw steel to protect your hard work from the elements.
