OVERVIEW
When it comes to restoring the structural integrity of your vintage Volkswagen, the front wheelhouse area is often one of the most critical yet neglected regions. This Front Wheelhouse Rear Section for the Right Side (Passenger Side) is a precision-stamped replacement panel designed to address the notorious rust issues that plague the air-cooled Beetle. Because this panel is situated directly behind the front tire, it is constantly bombarded by road debris, moisture, and salt, which eventually leads to severe corrosion where the wheelhouse meets the A-pillar and the heater channel. Replacing this section is essential not just for the aesthetics of your restoration, but for the overall rigidity of the body shell. Whether you are performing a body-off restoration or a localized repair, this high-quality panel provides the factory-correct contours needed to bring your VW back to its former glory.
Crafted from heavy-duty stamped steel, this replacement panel is engineered to match the original equipment specifications for a seamless fit. It serves as the bridge between the inner fender area and the door pillar, making it a vital component for maintaining the correct alignment of your front-end sheet metal. Since this part requires welding, it is designed with clean edges to facilitate a professional-grade installation. Don''t let "Swiss cheese" metal compromise the safety and value of your classic Bug. By installing this robust wheelhouse section, you are ensuring that your vehicle remains protected against the elements for decades to come. At Appletree Auto, we understand that every millimeter counts in a restoration, and this KeyParts panel delivers the accuracy and durability that seasoned air-cooled enthusiasts demand.

PRO TIPS
1. Clean Your Weld Zones Thoroughly
Before you begin the installation process, it is imperative to strip the protective storage primer from the specific areas where you will be welding. While the primer protects the panel during shipping and storage, it can contaminate your welds, leading to porosity and weak joints. Use a flap disc or a wire wheel to get down to shiny, bare metal on both the new panel and the existing vehicle substrate. Once the welding is complete, immediately apply a high-quality zinc-rich primer or a weld-through primer to the exposed areas to prevent flash rusting from occurring before the final paint stage.
2. Verify Door and A-Pillar Alignment
Since this panel sits in close proximity to the A-pillar and the front door hinges, it is vital to check your clearances before final welding. We recommend "tack welding" the panel in a few strategic spots first. Once tacked, hang the passenger side door and check the gaps. If the wheelhouse panel is slightly out of alignment, it can cause the heater channel or the lower A-pillar to shift, resulting in a door that doesn''t close properly or has uneven gaps. It is much easier to grind off a few tack welds and reposition the panel than it is to cut out a fully seam-welded component later in the project.
3. Don''t Skip the Seam Sealer and Cavity Wax
The reason the original factory panel rusted out is due to the "trap" nature of the wheel well design. Once your new panel is welded in and painted, you must apply a professional-grade automotive seam sealer to every joint. This prevents water from capillary-wicking into the overlapping metal layers. Furthermore, once the exterior is sealed, spray a generous amount of cavity wax or internal frame coating into the backside of the panel through the heater channel or A-pillar access points. This creates a hydrophobic barrier that ensures that even if moisture enters the internal structure, the metal remains shielded from oxidation.
