        PRO TIPS

        1. Clean the Seating Surfaces Thoroughly

        Before installing the new seal, it is imperative to use a degreaser and a wire brush to clean the shoulder of the trailing arm and the outer face of the beam tube. Any leftover old rubber, rust, or hardened grease will prevent the new seal from seating flush. A clean surface ensures a vacuum-tight fit that effectively keeps water from siphoning into the beam during rain or car washes. If the metal surface is pitted, a very thin smear of RTV silicone on the beam side can help provide an extra level of protection, though usually, a clean dry fit is best for the arm side to allow for rotation.

        2. The "Pre-Lube" Technique

        When sliding the trailing arm back into the beam through the new seal, it is easy to accidentally tear or "fold over" the lip of the rubber. To prevent this, apply a light coat of high-quality chassis grease to the inner diameter of the seal and the trailing arm shaft. This reduces friction during the installation process and ensures the seal lips sit correctly against the arm. This also provides an initial lubrication layer that prevents the rubber from "chattering" or squeaking against the metal during the first few miles of driving after the rebuild.

        3. Check Your Bearings While You Are There

        Since you must remove the trailing arm to replace this seal, this is the perfect time to inspect your needle bearings or bushings inside the beam tubes. Reach inside with a clean finger or a light to check for metal flakes or heavy scoring. If the old seal was missing or badly damaged, it is likely that dirt has already entered the beam. We recommend pumping fresh grease into the Zerk fittings until you see the old, dirty grease being pushed out, ensuring the entire cavity is filled with clean lubricant before you final-seat the new seal and tighten the grub screws.
