OVERVIEW
In the world of air-cooled Volkswagens, oil pressure isn''t just a measurement; it is the lifeblood of your engine''s survival. The QuickCar Racing Products Quick-Light Oil Pressure Kit 61-711 is engineered to provide an aggressive early warning system that far surpasses the capabilities of a factory idiot light. While the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) oil pressure switches on a standard Beetle or Bus typically won''t illuminate until your pressure drops to a terrifying 2 to 5 PSI, this high-performance kit is pre-set to trigger at 20 PSI. This higher threshold is critical for high-performance builds, stroker engines, and off-road racers where a sudden drop to 15 or 18 PSI could signal a major failure long before the stock light would ever flicker. By the time a factory light comes on at highway speeds, the damage to your bearings and crank is usually already done. This kit gives you those precious extra seconds to kill the ignition and save your investment.
QuickCar has built its reputation in the grueling world of circle track racing, and that same durability is brought to your sand rail, baja bug, or street performance Ghia. The kit is remarkably comprehensive, featuring a high-intensity red warning lens that is impossible to miss, even in direct sunlight or during the vibration-heavy environment of a desert floor. Included in the package is a precision-calibrated 20 PSI sending unit and all the necessary wiring to complete the installation. Whether you are running a high-revving 2275cc weekend warrior or a turbo-charged drag car, having a dedicated, ultra-bright visual cue for oil pressure loss is the cheapest insurance policy you can buy. This isn''t just a gauge replacement; it is a tactical component designed to ensure that you are the first to know when your engine''s lubrication system is under duress.

PRO TIPS
1. The 20 PSI Advantage Over Stock
Most VW owners don''t realize that the stock oil light is often called an ''idiot light'' for a reasonit only tells you the engine is dead after it''s already happened. In a performance air-cooled engine, your oil also acts as a primary coolant. If your pressure drops to 15 PSI while you are cruising at 3,500 RPM, a stock light remains dark while your rod bearings are potentially overheating. By installing the 20 PSI Quick-Light, you receive a notification at a pressure level that is still safe enough to allow for a controlled shutdown. This is especially vital for engines equipped with external oil coolers and deep sumps where plumbing failures can lead to rapid pressure loss.
2. Proper Thread Sealing and Grounding
The sending unit included in this kit uses a 1/8 inch NPT pipe thread. When installing this into your VW block or an oil pressure T-fitting, use a very small amount of conductive thread sealant or a thin wrap of Teflon tape. However, be extremely careful: the sending unit relies on the engine block for its ground connection. If you over-apply Teflon tape, you can insulate the threads and prevent the light from ever turning on. Always test the circuit after installation by turning the ignition to the ''On'' position before starting the engine; the red light should be glowing brightly, indicating a complete circuit and zero pressure.
3. Strategic Dash Placement
For maximum effectiveness, mount the red indicator lens directly in your primary line of sight, preferably near the tachometer or the center of the dashboard. In a racing or off-road environment, you cannot afford to be looking down at a small mechanical gauge to check your vitals. The QuickCar Red Lens is designed to catch your peripheral vision even when you are focused on the trail or the track. If you are building a custom aluminum dash panel for a sand rail, ensure the hole is deburred properly to prevent the lens housing from vibrating loose over time. Double-check that your wiring is secured with zip ties away from the high-heat zones of the exhaust or cylinder heads.
