PRO TIP 1: CHECK YOUR END GAP RELIGIOUSLY

Even though these are precision-manufactured rings, you must always check the ring end gap before final installation. Insert each ring into the cylinder it will be living in, use a piston to square it up about an inch down the bore, and use a feeler gauge to measure the gap. For an air-cooled VW, a general rule of thumb is .004 inches of gap for every inch of cylinder bore.
