OVERVIEW
When you''re pushing your air-cooled VW to the limit on the dunes or at the drag strip, monitoring your hydraulic pressures is non-negotiable. The Allstar Performance 10-foot Nylon Brake Line is the industry standard for plumbing mechanical brake pressure gauges and oil pressure gauges in high-performance environments. Crafted from premium-grade nylon, this tubing provides the perfect balance of flexibility and high-pressure resistance, allowing you to route your gauge lines through the complex chassis of a sand rail or the tight confines of a Beetle''s floor pan. Unlike rigid metal lines that can vibrate and crack or heavy rubber hoses that take up too much space, this nylon line offers a lightweight, durable solution that stands up to the rigors of off-road racing and street performance. At Appletree Auto, we know that precision matters, and this 10-foot coil ensures you have plenty of length to reach from your master cylinder or engine block all the way to your dashboard cluster without unnecessary unions or leak points.
This Allstar Performance nylon line is specifically designed to handle the hydraulic demands of pressure-sensing equipment. The 3/16-inch interior diameter is optimized for consistent fluid transmission, ensuring that your gauges provide real-time, accurate data so you can monitor your braking system''s health or your engine''s lubrication status. Whether you are building a dedicated Baja Bug, a lightweight tube-chassis sand car, or a custom street rod, this tubing is a critical component for any driver who demands more than just "idiot lights" on their dash. The semi-translucent material also allows for quick visual inspections of the fluid condition, making it a favorite among master mechanics who appreciate easy maintenance. Don''t settle for inferior hardware store tubing when your vehicle''s performance is on the line; trust the same brand that professional racers use to keep their cockpits informed and their systems pressurized.
FITMENT

PRO TIPS
1. Avoid Heat and Friction for Maximum Longevity
When routing your Allstar Performance nylon line from the chassis to the dashboard, always stay clear of high-heat sources like exhaust headers or heater boxes. Nylon is incredibly tough, but extreme heat can soften the material over time, leading to potential leaks or pressure drops. Furthermore, always use rubber grommets whenever the line passes through a metal firewall or bulkhead. Even a small amount of vibration against a sharp metal edge can eventually saw through the nylon. Secure the line every 12 to 18 inches using insulated P-clamps or high-quality zip ties to ensure it doesn''t whip or chafe during high-speed off-road maneuvers.
2. Use the Correct Compression Fittings and Ferrules
One of the most common mistakes when installing nylon gauge lines is using the wrong fittings. For a leak-free seal, you must use the correct brass compression fittings specifically designed for 3/16-inch nylon tubing. Always ensure you are using the brass insert (also known as a stiffener) inside the end of the tube and a proper brass ferrule on the outside. This prevents the nylon from collapsing when you tighten the compression nut. Hand-tighten the nut first, then give it an additional 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns with a wrench. Do not over-tighten, as this can crack the ferrule or distort the nylon, leading to a slow drip that is difficult to diagnose later.
3. Proper Cutting and Bleeding for Accurate Gauge Readings
To ensure your gauges respond instantly, you must achieve a perfectly square cut on the end of the line. Use a dedicated tube cutter or a very sharp razor blade rather than side cutters or pliers, which can crush and ovalize the tube. A crushed tube end makes it nearly impossible to get a proper seal with your brass ferrules. Once installed, if you are using this for a brake pressure gauge, ensure you bleed the air out of the line just as you would a wheel cylinder. Trapped air in the nylon line will compress, causing your gauge to read inaccurately and potentially giving your brake pedal a "spongy" feel that every VW owner wants to avoid.
