OVERVIEW
When you''re carving through the dunes or navigating technical off-road trails, your braking system is the only thing standing between a controlled slide and a total loss of control. The Latest Rage 7/8 Bore Round Master Cylinder is engineered specifically for those high-demand environments where performance and reliability are non-negotiable. Designed as a direct replacement for CNC, Neal, or Latest Rage pedal assemblies, this master cylinder is the industry standard for custom VW-based builds, including sand rails, dune buggies, and woods racers. The round reservoir design is optimized for 2-wheel braking configurations, providing the precise hydraulic pressure needed to lock up or modulate your rear brakes with absolute confidence. Whether you''re building a brand-new rail or refreshing a seasoned off-road veteran, this master cylinder delivers the consistent pedal feel that professional drivers demand.
The 7/8-inch bore size is a critical specification for builders looking to balance pedal effort with fluid displacement. A larger bore like this provides a firmer pedal feel and shorter stroke, allowing for rapid brake engagement which is essential for steering-brake maneuvers and emergency stops on loose terrain. Constructed with a heavy-duty aluminum body, this unit is built to withstand the vibration and harsh conditions of the air-cooled world. It features a standard 1/8-inch NPT outlet, giving you the flexibility to adapt to either 3/16 SAE or Metric 10mm brake lines depending on your chassis setup. At Appletree Auto, we know that your brake system is only as strong as its weakest link, and by installing this premium Latest Rage component, you''re ensuring that your master cylinder won''t be the part that lets you down when the trail gets tough.

PRO TIPS
1. Always Bench Bleed Before Installation
One of the most common mistakes we see in the shop is installing a master cylinder "dry" and attempting to bleed the entire system from the wheel cylinders or calipers. To ensure a firm pedal and remove all trapped air, you must bench bleed this unit. Secure the master cylinder in a vise, fill the reservoir, and use a wooden dowel or a screwdriver to slowly stroke the piston while looping a hose from the 1/8-inch NPT port back into the reservoir. Continue this process until no air bubbles are visible in the fluid. This ensures the internal seals are lubricated and that you aren''t fighting a "spongy" pedal for hours after the install.
2. Selecting the Correct NPT Adapters
The 1/8-inch NPT outlet on this master cylinder is a pipe thread, which means it is tapered and requires a specific adapter to connect to your brake lines. Most VW enthusiasts will use either a 3/16 SAE flare or a 10mm Metric flare line. Do not attempt to force a standard brake line fitting directly into the NPT port, as this will strip the threads and cause a high-pressure leak. Ensure you use a small amount of Teflon tape or thread sealant on the NPT side of the adapter only, taking care not to let any sealant enter the hydraulic path, which could clog your brake valves.
3. Managing Pedal Ratio and Bore Size
Keep in mind that a 7/8-inch bore master cylinder requires more physical leg force than a 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch bore unit. If you find that your brakes are too hard to press, check your pedal ratio. This master cylinder is best suited for systems with a high mechanical advantage in the pedal arm. If you are running large multi-piston calipers in the rear, the 7/8 bore is ideal because it moves a higher volume of fluid per inch of travel, ensuring your pads make contact quickly. If your pedal feels like a "brick" with very little stopping power, you may need to move to a smaller bore or increase the length of your pedal arm for more leverage.
