PRO TIPS
1. Bench Bleeding is Mandatory
Before you ever bolt this master cylinder into your buggy, you MUST bench bleed it. Air trapped inside the cylinder bore is incredibly difficult to remove once the unit is mounted and the lines are attached. Use a bench bleeding kit to cycle brake fluid from the outlet back into the reservoir while pumping the piston slowly. Continue this process until every single tiny bubble is gone. This ensures that when you finally connect your brake lines, you are only pushing fluid, not air, which results in a much firmer and more responsive pedal right from the start.
2. Selecting the Correct Adapter Fitting
This master cylinder uses a 1/8-inch NPT outlet, which is a tapered pipe thread. Do NOT attempt to thread a standard inverted flare brake line directly into the master cylinder without the proper adapter. You will need a 1/8-inch NPT to 3/16-inch SAE flare adapter or a 10mm Metric adapter, depending on the brake lines you are running. Always use a small amount of thread sealant or Teflon tape on the NPT side of the fitting, but be extremely careful not to let any sealant enter the fluid passage, as it can clog your brake valves or wheel cylinders.
3. Understanding Bore Size Dynamics
The 3/4-inch bore is specifically chosen for 2-wheel brake systems to provide the right amount of hydraulic pressure to your calipers or wheel cylinders. If you find that your brake pedal feels too "hard" and requires too much leg strength, you might consider stepping down to a 5/8-inch bore. Conversely, if the pedal travels too far toward the floor before the brakes engage, you might need a larger bore.
