PRO TIPS
1. Always Use a Torque Wrench
One of the most common mistakes when installing transmission hardware is over-tightening, which can strip the threads inside the cast-iron transmission yoke. Conversely, under-tightening can lead to the bolt backing out due to engine vibration. Always refer to your factory service manual for the exact torque specification. We recommend applying a small amount of medium-strength (blue) thread-locking compound to the threads to ensure the bolt stays put, even under the harsh vibrations of an air-cooled engine.
2. Inspect the Yoke Threads Thoroughly
Before installing your new EMPI bolt, take a moment to clean the internal threads of the transmission yoke using a wire brush or a thread chaser. This prevents uneven loading on the rubber mounts, which helps reduce cabin noise and prevents premature wear of the transmission mount bushings.
