PRO TIPS
1. Proper Grease Packing Technique
Don''t just squeeze the grease packet into the boot and hope for the best. To ensure the longevity of your 930 CV joint, you must "work" the grease into the ball bearings and the cage. Before installation, put a glob of grease in the palm of your hand and press the joint into it until the grease is forced up through the center and around the balls. A properly packed joint should have grease in every internal crevice to prevent metal-on-metal contact during the initial break-in period. Many builders prefer to use a high-moly racing grease for even better heat dissipation in off-road environments.
2. Check for Binding at Full Droop
The primary advantage of a 930 CV joint is its ability to operate at steeper angles than a standard VW joint, but it still has limits. After installing your new kit, always cycle your suspension through its full range of motion. With the vehicle on jack stands and the suspension at "full droop," rotate the wheels by hand. If you feel any clicking, sticking, or resistance, your suspension travel may be exceeding the 930''s maximum angle. In these cases, you may need to install limit straps to prevent the joint from binding and exploding under power.
3. Use High-Quality Fasteners and Schnorr Washers
The 930 CV joint uses 10mm bolts, which carry a significant amount of torque. We highly recommend using 12-point high-strength CV bolts and "Schnorr" style serrated safety washers. These washers prevent the bolts from vibrating loosea common issue on off-road vehicles. Always use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer''s specifications in a cross-pattern. Re-torque your CV bolts after the first 50 miles of driving and after every major off-road trip to ensure your drivetrain stays secure and safe.
