OVERVIEW
When it comes to transferring power from your air-cooled engine to the transaxle, the clutch disc is the unsung hero of the drivetrain. This premium 200mm rigid clutch disc is specifically engineered for enthusiasts who demand a more direct and positive engagement than what a standard sprung-hub disc can provide. By eliminating the dampening springs found in traditional discs, this rigid design offers a significant reduction in rotational mass and removes a common failure point often seen in high-performance or heavy-duty off-road environments. Whether you are building a weekend cruiser or a rugged dune buggy, this disc ensures that every bit of torque is delivered straight to the gears without the ''mushy'' feel associated with aging spring-center units. It is the ideal choice for drivers who prefer a firm, predictable clutch pedal and a mechanical connection that feels as robust as the Volkswagen legacy itself.
At Appletree Automotive, we understand that reliability is paramount when you are miles away from the nearest paved road or stuck in heavy traffic. That is why this premium IAP-sourced disc features a high-grade friction material designed to withstand the heat and abuse of constant shifting and steep incline climbs. The rigid center construction is particularly favored by Beetle and Bus owners who have upgraded their engines to 1600cc or larger and need a clutch that won''t succumb to spring fatigue under increased load. This is not just a standard replacement part; it is a performance-oriented upgrade that provides a crisp experience when paired with a properly resurfaced flywheel and a high-quality pressure plate. When you choose this 200mm rigid disc, you are investing in a component that balances vintage VW simplicity with modern manufacturing tolerances for maximum longevity.
FITMENT
This 200mm rigid clutch disc is designed for Volkswagen models equipped with a 200mm flywheel. Please verify your flywheel size before ordering, as some early models may have been converted from 180mm.

PRO TIPS
1. Cleanliness is Crucial for Performance
Before installing your new clutch disc, it is imperative that you thoroughly clean the friction surfaces of both the flywheel and the pressure plate. Even a tiny amount of grease or oil from your fingers can lead to clutch chatter or premature slipping. Use a high-quality brake cleaner and a lint-free cloth to remove the protective shipping oil from the pressure plate and any residue on the flywheel. If you are reusing your flywheel, ensure it has been freshly resurfaced to provide a flat, clean mating surface for the new organic material to bed into properly.
2. Always Use an Alignment Tool
Don''t attempt to ''eye-ball'' the installation of a rigid clutch disc. Because there is no give in the center hub, the disc must be perfectly centered for the transaxle input shaft to slide in smoothly during engine mating. Always use a 24-spline clutch alignment tool to hold the disc in place while you torque the pressure plate bolts in a star pattern. Forcing the engine and transaxle together when the disc is misaligned can bend the center hub or damage the input shaft splines, leading to a clutch that won''t disengage properly.
3. Inspect the Supporting Cast
A new clutch disc is only as good as the parts surrounding it. While you have the engine out, take the time to inspect your throw-out bearing, the clutch operating shaft bushings, and the input shaft seal. A leaking main seal or input shaft seal will ruin a brand-new clutch disc in short order. Additionally, check the condition of your pilot bearing or bushing located in the gland nut. Replacing these relatively inexpensive items now prevents you from having to pull the engine again in six months because of a $5 part failure.
