Crafted from high-grade 6061 T6 billet aluminum and finished in a striking silver anodize, this plate does more than just look good. It utilizes a high-quality Buna rubber O-ring seal, which effectively eliminates the need for messy, unreliable paper gaskets that are notorious for weeping oil. PRO TIPS
Tip 1: Preparation is Key for a Leak-Free Seal
While the JayCee Mag-Plate is designed to be a "gasket-less" system, its performance depends on the condition of your engine case. Before installation, use a plastic scraper or solvent to completely remove any remnants of old paper gaskets or RTV silicone from the case mating surface. Even a tiny piece of leftover debris can prevent the Buna O-ring from seating perfectly. Once the surface is clean and dry, apply a very light film of fresh engine oil to the O-ring itself. This helps the O-ring slide into place without binding or pinching as you tighten the nuts, ensuring a lifetime of leak-free operation.
Tip 2: Reading the Magnet During Oil Changes
The magnet in your Mag-Plate is your engine''s "black box" recorder. Every time you remove the plate or the drain plug, pay close attention to what the magnet has collected. A very fine, greyish "paste" is generally considered normal wear from the piston rings and cylinder walls. However, if you find distinct silver flakes, needles, or larger chunks of steel, this is an early warning sign of lifter, camshaft, or bearing failure. Catching these particles on the Mag-Plate prevents them from being sucked into the oil pump, which could otherwise score the pump gears and drop your oil pressure. It is much cheaper to replace a camshaft than it is to replace a destroyed engine case.
Tip 3: Proper Torque and Hardware Maintenance
When installing your new Mag-Plate, remember that you are tightening steel nuts onto relatively soft 6mm studs embedded in an aluminum or magnesium case. It is very easy to over-torque these and pull the studs right out of the case. Always use a criss-cross (star) pattern to tighten the nuts in small increments, ensuring even pressure across the entire plate. We highly recommend using new copper washers and fresh nylock nuts or acorn nuts to prevent them from vibrating loose. If your case studs are stretched or the threads are damaged, replace them before installing this high-end billet piece to ensure the O-ring is compressed evenly.
