OVERVIEW
When it comes to the ignition system of your high-performance air-cooled Volkswagen, stability is just as important as the spark itself. The Allstar Performance Coil Clamp Firewall Mount (ALL81324) is engineered to replace the flimsy, stamped-steel brackets that have been the industry standard for decades. Designed for the serious enthusiast who demands both form and function, this bracket is CNC-machined from premium-grade aluminum to provide a rock-solid mounting point for your ignition coil. Whether you are bouncing through the dunes in a Manx-style buggy or carving corners in a lowered Cal-Look Beetle, the last thing you want is your coil vibrating loose or shifting during high-RPM operation. This clamp-style mount ensures a 360-degree grip on the coil body, distributing pressure evenly to prevent damage to the coil casing while keeping it exactly where you bolted it.
Beyond the mechanical security, the Allstar Performance mount offers a significant aesthetic and thermal upgrade for your engine bay. The anodized aluminum finish not only resists the corrosive environment of a rear-engine VW but also acts as a heat sink, helping to dissipate the heat generated by high-voltage ignition coils like the Bosch Blue or MSD Blaster series. By moving your coil off the traditional fan shroud and onto the firewall or a dedicated chassis plate, you reduce the vibration transferred directly from the engine block, which can extend the life of the internal windings and oil insulation inside the coil. This is a must-have component for any professional-level engine build where reliability and "race-ready" looks are the top priorities. Don''t settle for a rusted, bent factory strap when you can secure your ignition system with the precision of Allstar Performance.
FITMENT

PRO TIPS
1. Optimize Your Coil Orientation
When mounting your coil using the Allstar ALL81324 bracket, always consider the internal design of your coil. Most performance canister coils are oil-filled for cooling. If you are mounting this bracket to the firewall of your Beetle or Ghia, try to position the coil vertically with the tower facing up. While these clamps hold the coil securely in any position, mounting an oil-filled coil horizontally can sometimes lead to internal "dry spots" on the windings, which may cause premature failure under high-heat conditions. If you must mount it horizontally due to space constraints, ensure the clamp is tightened sufficiently so the coil cannot rotate during operation.
2. Ensure Proper Grounding and Clearance
Aluminum is an excellent conductor, but the anodized finish on this bracket acts as an insulator. If your specific ignition setup requires the coil case to be grounded through the bracket (though most modern VW coils ground through the wiring harness), you may need to lightly sand a small patch of the anodizing away where the bracket meets the firewall. Additionally, when mounting to the firewall, ensure you have checked the "hidden" side of the sheet metal for fuel lines or wiring looms before drilling your mounting holes. Using stainless steel hardware with nyloc nuts will ensure that the bracket stays put despite the high-frequency vibrations common in air-cooled engines.
3. Manage Lead Length and Vibration
One of the primary reasons to use a high-quality mount like the ALL81324 is to isolate the coil from engine-mounted vibration. By moving the coil from the fan shroud to the firewall, you are significantly reducing the stress on the internal components of the coil. However, remember that the engine moves on its mounts while the firewall remains stationary. Always leave a "service loop" or a bit of slack in your center high-tension lead (the wire going from the coil to the distributor) and the low-voltage trigger wires. If the wires are too tight, the natural torque of the engine will pull on the coil tower, potentially cracking the plastic or pulling the wire out of its socket.
