Pro Tech Tips for Installation

1. Clean and Chase the Case Threads: Before installing your new Chromoly studs, ensure the engine case threads are perfectly clean. Use a thread chaser rather than a standard cutting tap; a chaser cleans the threads without removing critical metal from the magnesium or aluminum case. This ensures the best possible "bite" and prevents the studs from pulling out under torque.

2. Use a Thread Sealant: To prevent oil from migrating through the case and leaking out around the base of the studs, apply a small amount of high-quality thread sealant or a medium-strength thread locker to the end of the stud that threads into the engine case. This creates an airtight seal and helps keep your engine bay clean.

3. Follow the Three-Step Torque Sequence: When installing the cylinder heads, always use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the factory "criss-cross" pattern. For 8mm studs, the final torque value is typically 18 ft-lbs.
