EMPI Weber IDF Main Jet 175
Precision Fuel Delivery for Weber IDF Carburetors
The EMPI Weber IDF Main Jet 175 (Part #73401.175) is a critical component for fine-tuning the fuel mixture in your performance carburetor. Designed specifically for the Weber IDF series, this jet allows for precise calibration of the high-speed circuit, ensuring your engine receives the exact amount of fuel required during acceleration and high-RPM operation. Whether you are building a street-legal Beetle or a high-performance sand rail, these jets provide the reliability and accuracy needed for optimal engine health.
VW Aircooled Fitment & Applications
This main jet is compatible with all Weber IDF carburetors typically found on VW aircooled engines. It is a standard tuning part for dual-carburetor setups on the following vehicles:
- VW Type 1 Beetle & Karmann Ghia
- VW Type 2 Bus, Transporter & Kombi
- VW Type 3 Squareback, Fastback & Notchback
- Custom Dune Buggies, Sand Rails, and Manx-style shells
Pro Tech Tips for Carburetor Tuning
Dial in Your High-Speed Circuit: The main jet primarily controls fuel flow from roughly 2,500 RPM through wide-open throttle (WOT). If your engine is "leaning out" or losing power at high speeds, stepping up to a 175 jet can help richen the mixture and provide the cooling fuel flow necessary to protect your valves and pistons.
Read Your Spark Plugs: To verify if the 175 jet is the correct size for your altitude and engine displacement, perform a "plug chop." Run the engine at high RPM under load, then immediately shut it off and pull a spark plug. A light tan color is ideal; if the plug is white, you are running lean and may need an even larger jet.
Balance with Air Correction Jets: Tuning is a balancing act. Your main jet works in conjunction with your air correction jet. A common rule of thumb for Weber IDF tuning is that the main jet size should be approximately 40 to 60 points smaller than the air correction jet to maintain a consistent fuel curve across the RPM range.
