OVERVIEW
When it comes to the safety and longevity of your air-cooled Volkswagen''s hydraulic system, the smallest components often play the most critical roles. This premium Brake Line Grommet is a vital restoration piece designed to protect your hard brake lines as they pass through the metal chassis or body panels. Over time, original rubber grommets become brittle, crack, and eventually fall away, leaving your metal brake lines vulnerable to vibration, chafing, and metal-on-metal contact. Without this protection, the constant harmonic vibration of the engine and road can cause a hard line to wear thin and eventually rupture, leading to a catastrophic loss of braking pressure. Installing these high-quality EMPI grommets ensures that your lines remain isolated and secure, maintaining the structural integrity of your braking system for years to come.
Crafted from high-density, weather-resistant rubber, these grommets are engineered to withstand the harsh environment of a vintage VW''s undercarriage. They are resistant to oil, grease, and road salt, ensuring they won''t degrade prematurely even in daily-driven conditions. Whether you are performing a full pan-off restoration on a 1967 Beetle or simply refreshing the safety components on a late-model Bay Window Bus, these grommets provide a factory-perfect fit and a professional finish. Sold individually, they are an affordable "must-have" for any brake system overhaul. Don''t risk a dangerous brake failure by reusing old, dry-rotted rubber; replace your grommets every time you service your lines to ensure your classic Volkswagen remains safe on the road.

PRO TIPS
1. Use Proper Lubrication for Installation
Installing new rubber grommets can be a tight fit, especially through freshly painted chassis holes. To make the job easier, apply a small amount of dish soap or a dedicated silicone-based rubber lubricant to the outer groove of the grommet. Avoid using petroleum-based greases or engine oil, as these can eventually break down the rubber and cause it to swell or disintegrate. A little lubrication allows the grommet to "pop" into place effortlessly without tearing the delicate sealing lips.
2. Inspect During Every Brake Service
Whenever you have your VW on jack stands for a brake bleed or a shoe adjustment, take a moment to inspect every pass-through point where a hard line meets the body. If you see the line touching the metal or notice that the grommet has moved out of position, it needs immediate attention. Even a small amount of friction over a few hundred miles can create a "nick" in the steel line, which creates a weak point that could burst under heavy emergency braking pressure. Replacing a two-dollar grommet is much cheaper than replacing a full set of brake lines.
3. Sequence Your Restoration Correctly
If you are performing a "body-off" restoration or repainting your floor pans, always wait until the paint is fully cured before installing these grommets. Installing them while the paint is tacky can glue the grommet to the chassis, making future removals difficult. Furthermore, never paint over the grommets. Keeping the rubber clean and free of overspray ensures it remains flexible and can properly absorb the vibrations of the vehicle. For a concours-correct look, the grommet should always be installed after the final finish is applied to the metalwork.
