1. Verify Suspension Travel Clearances
Before you finalize your installation, it is absolutely vital to cycle your suspension through its full range of motion. On a long-travel Baja Bug or a Sand Rail, the distance between the frame tab and the caliper can change significantly. Ensure that at full droop, the 16-inch hose is not being pulled tight, as this will eventually lead to fitting failure. Conversely, at full compression, make sure the hose does not kink or rub against the tires or shock absorbers. Use the included frame tabs to position the junction point in a location that minimizes hose movement during steering and suspension cycles.
2. Always Use New Crush Washers
While it may be tempting to reuse old copper washers, we strongly advise against it. Copper crush washers are designed to "work-harden" and deform once to create a perfect high-pressure seal between the banjo fitting and the caliper. Once they have been compressed, they lose their ability to seal effectively a second time. This kit includes four fresh washersuse two per side (one on each side of the banjo fitting). Torque the banjo bolts to the caliper manufacturer''s specifications, usually between 12-14 ft-lbs, to ensure a leak-free seal without stripping the metric threads in the caliper housing.
3. Proper Bleeding and Fluid Choice
When installing these stainless lines, you are introducing a significant amount of air into the system. Start your bleeding process at the wheel furthest from the master cylinder (usually the passenger rear) and work your way closer. Because these lines are #3 diameter, they can sometimes trap small air bubbles at the high points of the hose loops. Ensure the hoses are routed without "high loops" that sit above the bleeder screw level if possible. Additionally, since you are running high-performance stainless lines, we recommend using a high-quality DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid to handle the increased heat that disc brakes generate compared to old-fashioned drums.
