Pro Tech Tips for Successful Gear Removal

Remove the Snap Ring First: Before you attempt to use the puller, you must remove the snap ring located on the end of the crankshaft. Forgetting this step is the most common cause of tool failure and will result in a broken puller and a voided warranty.

Square Alignment is Key: Ensure the tool is seated fully and squarely under the timing gear before applying pressure. Whether you are using a hand wrench or an impact gun, keeping the tool centered prevents the puller from slipping and potentially marring the crankshaft snout.

Inspect the Woodruff Key: Once the gear is removed, immediately inspect the Woodruff key and its slot for wear or damage. It is also the perfect time to check the crankshaft surface for any burrs that should be polished out before you begin the reinstallation of your new bearings and gears.
