This 14mm x 1.5 thread lug nut is a standard requirement for many aircooled Volkswagen applications, particularly the VW Type 2 Bus. The 60-degree taper (conical seat) is designed specifically for aftermarket aluminum or steel wheels that utilize a tapered mounting surface rather than the factory-style radius (ball) seat.

Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Tip 1: Confirm Seat Matching. Always verify that your wheels are designed for a 60-degree conical (tapered) seat. Many original equipment VW wheels use a "ball seat." Installing a tapered lug nut into a ball seat wheel prevents proper surface contact, which can lead to the lug nuts loosening or the wheel mounting holes becoming ovalized during operation.

Tip 2: Hand-Thread Before Tooling. To prevent cross-threading, always start the lug nut onto the stud by hand for at least three to four full rotations. Once the threads are properly engaged, finish tightening with a manual socket and torque wrench. Avoid using impact wrenches for the initial threading, as the high torque can strip the 1.5 pitch threads instantly.

Tip 3: Torque to Dry Specs. For the most accurate and safe installation, ensure the stud threads and the lug nut threads are clean and dry. Applying grease or anti-seize to the threads can lead to false torque readings and potential over-stretching of the studs.
