PRO TIPS
1. Verify Case Preparation for Full-Flowing
Remember that installing a full-flow oil pump cover is only one half of the equation. To properly "Full-Flow" a VW engine, your engine case must be drilled and tapped at the main oil gallery, and the internal passage from the pump to the gallery must be plugged. If you install this cover without plugging the case and routing the oil through an external filter, you will simply be creating a loop that doesn't provide the filtration benefits you are looking for. Always ensure your case is properly prepared by a professional machinist before finalizing your oiling system plumbing.
2. Avoid Over-Torquing the Mounting Nuts
While the JayCee cover is incredibly strong due to its billet construction, the oil pump studs in your engine case are often the weak point. When installing the cover, use a high-quality gasket or a very thin smear of sealant (like Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket) and torque the 8mm nuts to the factory specification of approximately 14-18 ft-lbs in a cross pattern. Because this cover uses an O-ring fitting for the oil line itself, you don''t need to worry about the fitting causing stress on the cover, but proper mounting torque is still essential to prevent warping the oil pump body itself.
3. Check Crank Pulley Clearance
Although JayCee has designed this cover to clear the pulley tin, always perform a dry fit with your specific crank pulley. If you are running an oversized "Power Pulley" or a specialized serpentine belt system, the clearances can become very tight. Before starting the engine, rotate the assembly by hand to ensure there is no interference between the back of the pulley and the #8 AN fitting or the hose end. Using a 90-degree or 45-degree AN fitting can often help route the oil lines away from moving parts more effectively in tight engine bays.
