1. Prioritize Proper Ring Gapping

Even though these kits come with rings, you should never assume they are ready for immediate installation. Always check the end gap of every piston ring by placing it inside the cylinder and using a feeler gauge. If the gap is too tight, the rings can expand under heat and touch ends, which leads to catastrophic cylinder wall damage or broken ring lands. For a 1641cc street engine, aim for a gap that follows the manufacturer''s specific recommendation, typically around .004 inches per inch of bore. 2. Thoroughly Clean the Factory Anti-Rust Coating
