Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Never Reuse Old Lifters: It is a fundamental rule of VW engine building to never install a new camshaft without a fresh set of lifters. Reusing worn lifters on a new cam surface will lead to premature failure and destruction of the camshaft lobes.

Use High-Zinc Lubricants: For the initial break-in period, always use assembly lube on the lifter faces and a specialized break-in oil with high ZDDP (zinc) content. This provides the necessary protection for flat-tappet components during the critical first minutes of engine operation.
