This gear is compatible with Aircooled Type 1, 2, and 3 engines (1200cc to 1600cc based) utilizing performance camshafts from manufacturers like EMPI, Engle, or Web Cam.

Professional Installation Tech Tips

Tip 1: Verify Camshaft Compatibility - Before installation, ensure your camshaft is a "3-bolt" performance style. Standard stock replacement camshafts are often "press-on" and will not accept this bolt-on gear. Using this aluminum gear with an aftermarket cam reduces rotating mass and allows for more precise meshing compared to worn stock components.

Tip 2: Use High-Strength Threadlocker and Torque Specs - When securing the gear to the camshaft, always use a high-strength (red) threadlocking compound on the three mounting bolts. Torque these bolts to the manufacturer's specification (typically 18-20 ft-lbs) to prevent the bolts from backing out inside the engine case, which would cause catastrophic engine failure.
