OVERVIEW
When you are building a high-performance off-road machine, whether it is a rugged Baja Bug or a lightweight Sand Rail, the integrity of your air induction system is paramount. The Latest Rage 90-Degree Rubber Intake Boot is engineered to provide a seamless, high-flow transition for custom intake setups that require a sharp turn in tight engine compartments. Designed specifically for air-cooled VW enthusiasts who demand reliability in harsh environments, this 3-inch diameter elbow is the gold standard for connecting remote air cleaners to Weber Progressive carburetors or custom plenum hats. Its robust construction ensures that your engine receives a steady stream of clean air without the risk of collapsing under vacuum or cracking due to the intense heat cycles found in a high-output Volkswagen engine bay.
Unlike universal plumbing components found at big-box stores, this intake boot is manufactured from a high-grade rubber compound that is resistant to oil, fuel vapors, and environmental degradation. The 90-degree bend is molded to maintain its internal diameter throughout the curve, preventing air turbulence and ensuring maximum volumetric efficiency for your 1600cc to 2332cc powerplants. This boot is particularly essential for off-roaders running Weber DGV or DFEV progressive carb kits where space between the carburetor and the decklid or cage is at a premium. By utilizing this heavy-duty boot, you can confidently route your intake piping to a high-mount canister filter, keeping your intake tract free of the silt and sand that can destroy a performance engine in a single afternoon.

PRO TIPS
1. Use T-Bolt Clamps for a Superior Seal
While standard worm-gear clamps are common, we highly recommend using stainless steel T-bolt clamps with this 3-inch boot. T-bolt clamps provide 360 degrees of even pressure, which prevents "pinching" the rubber and ensures a vacuum-tight seal. In off-road racing, vibration is the enemy; a T-bolt clamp won''t vibrate loose, ensuring that no unfiltered "dirty" air bypasses your filter and enters your carburetor or throttle body.
2. The Secret to Easy Installation
Fitting a 3-inch rubber boot over a 3-inch aluminum intake tube can sometimes be a struggle due to the tight tolerances. Never use petroleum-based grease or oil to slide the boot on, as these chemicals will eventually break down the rubber and cause it to turn "gummy." Instead, use a light mist of glass cleaner or a mixture of mild dish soap and water. This provides enough lubrication to slide the boot into place, and once the liquid evaporates, it actually helps the rubber "tack" to the metal for a more secure fit.
3. Manage Vibration and Stress Relief
Rubber boots are excellent for isolating vibration, but they should not be the primary support for your intake piping. If you are running a long snorkel or a heavy canister filter, ensure that the metal piping is supported by a bracket attached to the chassis or engine. If the rubber boot is forced to carry the weight of the intake system, the constant rocking motion of the engine will eventually cause the rubber to fatigue and tear at the edges of the clamps. Properly supporting your intake tract ensures this boot will last for years of hard trail riding.
