Pro Tech Tips from Appletree Auto

Tip 1: Perform the Vacuum Leak Test. After installation, start your engine and let it idle. Lightly spray a small amount of carburetor cleaner or starting fluid around the intake boot. If the engine RPM increases or stumbles, air is bypassing the boot. Ensure your clamps are centered and tight to maintain a perfect seal.

Tip 2: Ease Installation with Lubrication. Urethane is more rigid than standard rubber. If you find it difficult to slide the boot onto the manifold ends, apply a very light film of dish soap or silicone lubricant to the inside of the boot. This allows it to slide into position without binding or tearing during the assembly of the intake system.

Tip 3: Inspect Your Clamps. Always use high-quality stainless steel hose clamps with urethane boots. Because urethane does not compress as easily as rubber, ensure your clamps are wide enough to distribute pressure evenly. Avoid using old, rusted, or narrow clamps that could cut into the urethane material over time.
