This 12-piece hardware kit is designed for Aircooled VW Type 1 engines, including the Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and early Bus. It provides the necessary flat-head screws to secure cylinder cooling tins to the cylinder heads and attach the alternator or generator backing plate to the fan shroud.

Pro Tech Tips for Installation

Tip 1: Use Anti-Seize Lubricant. Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads before installation. Cooling tins are subject to high heat cycles and moisture, which can cause these small screws to seize over time. This ensures you can remove them easily during the next engine service without stripping the heads.

Tip 2: Align All Screws Before Tightening. Cooling tins often require slight manipulation to line up perfectly. Insert all screws by hand and thread them in a few turns first. Once every screw in the tin is started, go back and tighten them down. This prevents cross-threading and alignment issues.

Tip 3: Do Not Overtighten. These screws thread into relatively soft metal or thin clips. Use a hand screwdriver rather than a power tool to avoid stripping the threads. Firmly snug is sufficient to hold the tins against engine vibration without damaging the hardware or the engine components.
