OVERVIEW
When it comes to protecting your air-cooled investment, the oiling system is the lifeblood of your engine. The EMPI Billet Oil Pump Cover with a Full Flow Outlet is a critical upgrade for any Volkswagen enthusiast looking to move beyond the limitations of the factory lubrication design. Standard VW oiling systems rely on internal passages that can leave your engine vulnerable to heat and contaminants during high-performance use. This CNC-machined masterpiece allows you to route your engine''s oil out of the pump and through an external filter or cooler before it ever reaches the vital bearings. By utilizing high-grade 6061-T6 billet aluminum, this cover eliminates the flexing and bowing common with stock stamped steel or cast iron covers, ensuring a flat, leak-free mating surface that maintains maximum oil pressure even under extreme operating temperatures.
Machined to exacting tolerances, this billet cover is specifically designed for engines converted to a "Full Flow" system. It features a pre-tapped outlet hole and includes the necessary NPT fitting to get your plumbing started. Whether you are building a high-revving street car, a rugged off-road sand rail, or a daily driver Beetle that needs extra cooling capacity, this component provides the structural integrity and flow characteristics required for modern synthetic oils and high-volume pumps. The sleek billet finish not only performs better than stock but also adds a professional, high-performance aesthetic to your engine case. Don''t settle for "good enough" when it comes to oil pressure; give your VW the robust protection it deserves with this precision-engineered EMPI oil pump cover.

PRO TIPS
1. Understanding the Full Flow Process
It is important to remember that installing this cover is only one half of the "Full Flow" equation. To properly utilize this cover, your engine case must be disassembled, and the main oil gallery must be plugged. The oil exits through this billet cover, travels through your external filter/cooler, and then must return to the engine through a separate tapped hole in the engine case. If you install this cover without plugging the internal bypass and providing a return path, you will not achieve a true full-flow system and could potentially cause oil starvation. Always verify your case modifications before final assembly.
2. Proper Fitting Sealant and Torquing
When installing the included NPT fitting into the billet cover, never use permanent thread locker. Because NPT threads are tapered, they create a seal by being wedged together. I highly recommend using a high-quality PTFE-based thread sealant paste or a few wraps of yellow gas-rated Teflon tape. Be careful not to over-torque the fitting; billet aluminum is strong, but over-tightening a steel NPT fitting can crack the housing. Snug it down firmly until the fitting is oriented in the direction you need for your oil lines, ensuring there are no leaks under pressure.
3. Check Pump Gear Clearance
Before you bolt the cover down for the final time, always "dry fit" the cover with the gasket to ensure your oil pump gears are not protruding too far. While this EMPI cover is machined to standard depths, some aftermarket high-volume pumps have gears that may sit slightly proud of the pump body. Use a small amount of assembly lube on the gears and rotate the engine by hand after the cover is torqued. If you feel any binding or resistance, you may need to check the gear length or use a slightly thicker gasket to ensure the gears don''t gall against the aluminum face of the cover.
