OVERVIEW
When it is time to protect your air-cooled investment, you cannot afford to compromise on the heart of your engine''s lubrication system. This Schadek High-Volume Oil Pump features massive 30mm gears, providing a significant increase in oil pressure and flow compared to stock 21mm or 26mm units. In the world of Volkswagen performance, heat is the enemy, and a steady, high-pressure supply of oil is your primary defense. By circulating a larger volume of oil through your galleries and cooler, you ensure that critical components like your rod bearings, main bearings, and valvetrain stay lubricated even under the high-stress conditions of highway cruising or off-road adventures in your dune buggy or woods buggy. Schadek has long been recognized as the industry standard for VW oil pumps, offering precision tolerances and a cast-iron gear set that resists the wear and tear common in lesser-quality aftermarket alternatives.
This specific pump is designed for "Flat Cam" engines, which were standard on Type 1 and Type 2 Volkswagens from 1956 through 1970. It features 8mm bolt holes, making it a perfect match for later-style cases or engines that have been upgraded with larger oil pump studs for increased clamping force. Compatibility is key when building a VW engine, and this pump is engineered to bridge the gap between vintage cam styles and modern high-flow requirements. Whether you are refreshing a stock 1600cc dual-port or building a torquey stroker motor that needs extra cooling capacity, the Schadek 30mm pump delivers the consistent performance required to keep your flat-four running cool and strong. Don''t settle for an unknown brand when the health of your engine is on the line; trust the brand that professional engine builders have relied on for decades.

PRO TIPS
1. Verify Your Camshaft Geometry Before Installation
The most common mistake during oil pump selection is misidentifying the camshaft style. This pump is strictly for "Flat Cams," which were used in early engines (up to 1970). A flat cam has a flat gear surface where it meets the oil pump drive. Later "Dish Cams" (1971-on) have a concave center. If you attempt to install this flat-cam pump on a dish-style cam, the drive tang will not engage properly, leading to a total loss of oil pressure and catastrophic engine failure. Always pull your old pump and look at the cam face or check your build sheet before sliding this unit into the case.
2. Prime the Pump for a Safe First Start
Never install a "dry" oil pump. Before you bolt the pump cover on, fill the gear cavities with a high-quality assembly lube or a thick engine oil. This creates an initial seal that allows the pump to "prime" or pull oil from the sump immediately upon the first rotation of the engine. A dry pump may struggle to create the necessary vacuum to pull oil up the pickup tube, leaving your bearings without lubrication for those critical first few seconds of runtime. Once primed, rotate the engine by hand to ensure the pump turns freely without any binding against the camshaft bolts.
3. Check Cover Plate Clearance and Gasket Thickness
To achieve maximum oil pressure, the clearance between the gears and the oil pump cover must be precise. We recommend using a high-quality steel or "Full Flow" pump cover. When installing, use the thinnest gaskets possible that still provide a leak-proof seal. If the gasket is too thick, it creates a gap between the gears and the cover, allowing oil to "bleed" past the gears internally, which significantly drops your oil pressure at idle. For the best results, use a light smear of sealant on the gaskets but ensure no excess material enters the oil galleries where it could clog a passage.
