1. Proper Hole Sizing for a Tight Seal

To ensure these 1/4-inch grommets stay seated and provide a dust-proof seal, it is critical to drill the correct pilot hole in your sheet metal. For a standard 1/4-inch ID (Inner Diameter) grommet, the mounting hole in the panel usually needs to be slightly larger than the internal diameter to accommodate the rubber shoulder. We highly recommend using a step-drill bit (often called a Uni-Bit) when working on VW body panels. This allows you to create a perfectly round, burr-free hole. 2. Use Lubricant for Easier Installation
