        OVERVIEW

Precision fuel delivery is the lifeblood of any late-model air-cooled engine, and for those running the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system, there is no room for compromise. This JP Group fuel filter is engineered specifically for the unique demands of 1970s fuel-injected Volkswagens and Porsches. Unlike carbureted systems that operate on low pressure, fuel injection systems require a high-integrity filtration barrier to protect sensitive injectors from microscopic debris. Even a tiny speck of rust from an aging gas tank can clog an injector pintle, leading to lean conditions, overheating, and potentially catastrophic engine failure. By installing this robust, metal-cased filter, you are ensuring that your fuel rail maintains consistent pressure and that your injectors remain free from the contaminants that plague modern ethanol-blended fuels.

Designed as a direct replacement for OE number 133-133-511, this filter features the specific staggered inlet and outlet sizes (8mm and 12mm) required for a factory-correct fitment. The JP Group, known for their rigorous Danish engineering standards, has constructed this unit to withstand the higher operating pressures of an electric fuel pump system. Whether you are maintaining a daily driver Beetle or restoring a classic Porsche 914, using the correct fuel-injection-rated filter is non-negotiable. Standard plastic "universal" filters intended for carburetors cannot handle the 30+ PSI generated by these systems and are prone to bursting. This heavy-duty canister is the professional choice for reliability, safety, and long-term performance in the Appletree Auto tradition.

        PRO TIPS

        1. Respect the Direction of Flow

Fuel filters are directional components, and installing them backward can lead to restricted fuel flow and premature pump failure. Look closely for an arrow stamped into the metal casing of the filter; this arrow must point toward the engine (the direction the fuel is traveling). If you install it in reverse, the internal filtration media can collapse under the pressure of the pump, causing a massive drop in fuel pressure that will make your VW stumble, cough, or refuse to start. Always double-check the orientation before tightening your clamps to ensure your fuel pump isn''t working harder than it needs to.

        2. Upgrade to Fuel Injection Specific Hose Clamps

When replacing this filter, do not reuse old, tired spring clamps or standard "worm-gear" clamps found at most hardware stores. Standard worm-gear clamps often pinch the fuel line or create "flat spots" that leak under the high pressure of an EFI system. We strongly recommend using 100% stainless steel fuel injection clamps (often called Nut and Bolt clamps). These provide 360-degree even pressure around the hose, which is essential for the 12mm outlet side of this filter. Given that these filters are often located near the starter or hot engine components, a secure, leak-free seal is your best insurance against a vehicle fire.

        3. Manage the "Hidden" Debris in Modern Fuel

Modern pump gas contains ethanol, which is hygroscopic (it attracts water) and acts as a solvent. In older Volkswagens with original steel gas tanks, ethanol-blended fuel can strip away decades of varnish and rust from the tank walls, sending a slurry of sediment straight toward your engine. Even if your filter looks clean on the outside, we recommend replacing it every 10,000 to 12,000 miles or once a year if your car sits for long periods. If you notice your electric fuel pump becoming increasingly noisy (a high-pitched whine), it is often a sign that the filter is partially clogged and the pump is struggling to push fuel through. Change the filter immediately to save your expensive fuel pump from burning out.
