Pro Tech Tips for Carburetor Tuning

Optimize Transition: The idle jet controls the fuel delivery from idle up to approximately 2500 RPM. If the engine stumbles or hesitates during light acceleration, switching to a .55 jet can often smooth out the transition from the idle circuit to the main circuit.

Maintain Orifice Integrity: Do not use metal wires or drill bits to clean a brass idle jet. Even a microscopic scratch can alter the fuel flow. Always use aerosol carburetor cleaner and compressed air to clear obstructions from the .55 orifice.

Check for Vacuum Leaks First: Before changing jet sizes to solve a lean idle condition, ensure the intake manifolds and carburetor bases are sealed. A vacuum leak will mimic the symptoms of a small idle jet, making tuning difficult and inconsistent.
