OVERVIEW
When it comes to the longevity of your air-cooled Volkswagen, the quality of the lubricant you choose is just as critical as the hard parts themselves. The Allstar Performance Wheel Bearing Grease (ALL78240) is a premium, high-temperature synthetic lubricant formulated by Timken, the gold standard in bearing technology. For VW owners, this means superior protection against the extreme heat generated during heavy braking or long-distance cruising. Whether you are running a classic Beetle with front drum brakes or a high-performance Sand Rail with a heavy-duty disc brake conversion, this grease provides the thermal stability required to prevent liquefaction and runoff, ensuring your rollers stay coated and your spindles stay cool under the most demanding conditions.
This 14oz cartridge is designed for seamless use in standard grease guns, making it an essential addition to any VW enthusiast''s garage or track-day toolkit. Beyond just lubrication, this synthetic formula is engineered to resist water washout and inhibit corrosion, which is vital for vehicles that spend time in humid environments or off-road in the dirt and mud. In the world of air-cooled VWs, where front-end maintenance is often overlooked, using a professional-grade grease like this Allstar/Timken blend can be the difference between a smooth-rolling ride and a catastrophic bearing failure on the highway. Don''t settle for "all-purpose" lubricants when your vintage investment deserves the high-load protection of a dedicated racing-spec grease.

PRO TIPS FROM THE SHOP
1. The Secret to a Perfect Pack
When installing new bearings in your VW, never just "wipe" grease on the outside of the rollers. To properly pack a bearing, place a generous glob of the Allstar ALL78240 grease in the palm of your hand and "rake" the edge of the bearing through the grease until it forces its way through the cage and out the top side. You want to see the grease emerge from the small gaps between the rollers. This ensures that the internal surfaces are fully lubricated from the very first rotation, preventing "dry starts" that can scar the race and lead to premature failure.
2. Never Mix Your Greases
One of the most common mistakes VW owners make is adding new grease on top of old, unknown lubricant. Different grease bases (like Lithium-complex vs. Clay-based) can be chemically incompatible, causing the grease to separate or harden into a waxy substance that won''t lubricate. Before applying this synthetic Allstar grease, thoroughly clean your hubs, spindles, and bearings with a parts washer or solvent. Once the metal is completely clean and dry, you can apply the new grease with confidence, knowing the synthetic additives are working at 100% efficiency without interference from old contaminants.
3. Manage Your Dust Seal and Pre-Load
While you have the grease gun out, remember that the grease is only as good as the seal holding it in. Always install a new inner grease seal when servicing your VW front end. Additionally, when tightening your spindle nut, don''t over-torque it. The "rule of thumb" for classic VWs is to tighten the nut while spinning the rotor/drum until it stops, then back it off just enough so that you can move the thrust washer behind the nut with the tip of a screwdriver using only finger pressure. This "float" allows the high-temp grease to expand slightly as it warms up without putting excessive side-load on the bearing races.
