2. Preventing Needle Flutter

Mechanical speedometers are sensitive to the routing of the drive cable. If you experience a bouncing or fluttering needle, it is almost always due to the cable being bound or bent at too sharp of an angle. When installing this unit in a custom dash, ensure the cable has a straight "run-in" of at least 6 inches before any major bends. Avoid zip-tying the cable too tightly to the chassis, as this can compress the outer housing and create friction on the inner rotating wire, leading to premature wear of the gauge''s internal gears.

3. Accuracy and Tire Diameter

Because this is a mechanical unit calibrated for a 1:1 ratio (1,000 cable RPM = 60 MPH), your actual speed reading will be affected by your rear tire height and your transmission''s internal speedometer drive gearing.
