cv joint failure

Hello,
I'm wondering if a bunch of motor oil being spilled on the outer cv joint could lead to failure? The noise I'm hearing seems to comming from where the outer cv joint goes into the trailing arm. Just wondering if an oil spill in the area could have caused it? Thanks

If the boot was on it should have kept it from going inside and thinning out the grease. You probably have a bearing going bad. I would pull it apart and look at the stub shaft and bearings
